The Origin of the term Mash -Up; Radiohead

I don't know if you are familiar with the origin of the term mash-up. I first heard the term in conjunction with the blending of two pieces of music. Here's a link to an mp3 of a Radiohead tune, "Karma Police" mashed up with another tune and it's the most effective mash-up I've heard:

    I am listening to the song/s now. Pretty interesting. This reminds me of a piece I heard on NPR regarding Coldplay being accused of plagiarism in their new song, "Viva La Vida." The topic is not the mashup, but the way Brian Unger "analyzes" the different accusers pieces. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=103933616
