On to Produsage Assignments #2

It has been truly inspiring to see other classmates' Produsage Assignment submissions this week. The end products show a lot of thought, time and effort went into these projects. It's also encouraging to read other members' comments and feedback. I read every post yesterday afternoon before viewing the submissions (the ones that I could view, that is; our office firewall prevents access to social networking sites).

I have begun building a wiki for my second produsage assignment. There is certainly a need as our LMS's layout was completely revamped in May of this year, so much so in fact that many details pertaining to navigating within the LMS is now obsolete. I spent most of May and June creating flash tutorials for our New Faculty Training Cert. course and these have been uploaded to our CMS. I could upload them to Youtube, but that would seem hardly necessary given the specialized content and exclusive audience (no other institution uses our redesigned skin layout).

I thought the difficult part would be to get buy-in from the school's admins to build a wiki of material pertaining to our LMS. Surprisingly, my team leader thanked me for taking initiative and the school librarian was all too glad to provide me with a wikispaces account to use. I spent hours yesterday reviewing others' wiki submissions and surfing the net for tips as I start on my learning curve toward to the effective construction of a wiki. I have since learned that the wikispaces text boxes won't read html, in in almost no time at all I lost all the content in the Navigation bar. I have already created, deleted, and recreated numerous pages, and am now taking a step back to review what I learned.

My plan is to build a structure or groundwork and plan to ask my team mates to offer feedback and eventually to contribute to it. In terms of making this project a mash-up, my initial thought is to add additional a content about Web 2.0 principles and a listing of open source tools.
