Instituting a Company Wiki

A coworker shared his experience with wikis at his last place of employment, which was a technical library service where a new VP was hired. The new VP was disappointed with the lack of social networking that he observed within the company. Early on the VP set up a dedicated wiki for the company and instituted a policy that every employee had to contribute at least ten pages to the company wiki. In instituting this policy, each employee had to learn about the wiki, learn how to navigate through it, and learn how to collaborate with others as needed on their submissions.

According to this former employee, the company wiki proved to be very successful, it provided a resource where employees and departments could learn about services provided by other departments, and about the value that other departments brought to the company. Within a few months the company wiki was populated with hundreds of pages of content, and in a very short space of time the wiki became a valuable asset to the company overall.
